Adult Artists' Exhibit

From May 13 to June 26, the Railton Gallery display will feature amateur and professional artists of Cole County and adjacent counties including acrylic, oil, pastel/chalk/colored pencil, charcoal/graphite/ink, and more. The gallery is open from 1-4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday; free admission. "Leaving Iowa" Dinner Theatre

May 15-17, 28-31

The Capital City Players present "Leaving Iowa," a dinner theatre production at Shikles Auditorium, 1200 Linden Drive. Leaving Iowa is a warm and nostalgic comedy about a middle-aged writer searching for the perfect spot to scatter his father's ashes, along the way, he relives the summer vacations he spent trapped in the family station wagon as a boy.  Evening performances will be May 15, 16, 28, 29 and 30; doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Matinee performance will be May 17 and 31; doors open at noon, lunch at 12:30 p.m. and the show starts at 1:30 p.m. Advance reservations are required; call (573) 681-9012 for tickets. Folk Arts Festival

May 16

From 9:30 a.m.-3:30 pm. on Saturday, Jefferson City’s Memorial Park will once again come alive for a unique gathering of talented folk artists, musicians and craftsmen. People of all ages will be treated to live demonstrations of traditional basket weaving, chair caning, loom weaving, soap making and wood carving. In addition, visitors can enjoy good food, a variety of craft vendors and a beautiful park setting while listening to Native American flute music, blues and old time fiddle tunes. At this festival everyone has a chance to take home a treasured piece of Missouri, hand-crafted by regional artists. The event is free to the public, so come celebrate Missouri’s folk art traditions and see Missouri heritage come to life. Missouri State Track Championships

May 22-23, May 29-30

MSHSAA State Track Championships will be held at Dwight T. Reed Stadium at Lincoln University. Come watch as high school teams from all across Missouri compete for the title of State Track Champion. 1A and 2A schools will compete the first weekend; 3A and 4A will compete the second weekend.
