"To Kill a Mockingbird"

January 8-10

This dramatic adaptation of Harper Lee’s, Pulitzer-prize winning novel brings to the stage one of the most memorable stories in American literature. As told through the eyes of a young girl,Scout Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird is an odyssey through the fires of bigotry and racial injustice in the segregated South of the 1930s. Scout’s normally quiet hometown of Maycomb, Alabama is rocked by a crisis of conscience when her lawyer-father, Atticus, hopelessly strives to defend a black man accused of raping a white woman. Scout’s world reels with uncertainty. Why is her father defending this man? Why have her white friends turned against her? And, oh yes! What really goes on inside the Radley house down the street? As Scout and her brother Jem seek to answer these questions, they encounter an evil born of ignorance and hatred that threatens their very lives. Dramatic and compassionate, To Kill a Mockingbird explores the depths of human emotion—innocence and enlightenment, cruelty and kindness, love and hate, humor and fear. It’s a timeless coming-of-age story with a message as pertinent today as it was forty years ago. This is one you don’t want to miss! Staged at The Miller Performing Arts Center, evening performances start at 7:30 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 8-10. One matinee performance will start at 2 pm, Saturday Jan. 10.
